College Involvement

Friends Inc. has had a long relationship with Canisius University that extends over the past ten years.  Since the first interactions between these institutions, numerous groups and individuals from the university have aided in tutoring the students enrolled at Friends Inc.  This has been beneficiary to both entities.  The students of Friends Inc. have been blessed with added education and resources, and the students of Canisius have been shown the benefits and necessities of community service.

The University at Buffalo has only recently begun interacting with Friends Inc.  This web site was the first project done by UB students to benefit Friends Inc.  It was completed by a group of six freshman Honors College students as a service learning assignment.  They worked with the staff of Friends Inc. to put together a web site that would show possible students and parents what Friends Inc. had to offer.

We have been offering social work majors from Buffalo State University an oppurtunity to work with inner-city children for such classes as "Dynamics of Poverty" for the past five years. This is also a give-and-take situation in that they gain the experiences they need and our students learn form roel models they may have not otherwise encountered.
